# NanoViv and other home made

# July 4, 2103

During one of my web site expedition, I found  Mikael's flick page with his wonderful nanoviv: [![Mikael nanoviv](http://myorchidjournal.blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/mikael-nanoviv.jpg)](http://myorchidjournal.blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/mikael-nanoviv.jpg) It's a mini-vivarium that relies on the porosity of a clay water pipe to watering the plans attached directly to it. Visit Mikae'sl web page [here](http://www.flickr.com/photos/lika_sweden/)to find more information. And you can find some instruction on how to build one [here](http://forum.theorchidsource.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/28207/2.html). Of course, I was very interested and started to look for all material to build one. I found an old clay water pipe. After some days of experience, it seems that there is internal coating that makes the pipe nonporous, too bad :-( So I decided to make some changes and test this material made by Epiweb: h[ygrolon](http://www.epiweb.se/support.htm). I covered the pipe with the hygrolon and add 4 slices to pump the water inside the pipe. My first feeling is that 4 slices is too much but will see after some days if I need to adjust. Ok, I don't have Mikael's experience... but I'm happy with the result. Now, let see if the plans will be happy! [![nanoviv zoom](http://myorchidjournal.blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/nanoviv-zoom.jpg)](http://myorchidjournal.blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/nanoviv-zoom.jpg) [![nanoviv full view](http://myorchidjournal.blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/nanoviv-full-view.jpg)](http://myorchidjournal.blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/nanoviv-full-view.jpg) [![nanoviv map](http://myorchidjournal.blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/nanoviv-map.jpg)](http://myorchidjournal.blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/nanoviv-map.jpg) I found the material here: - Macrolon for the external tubing and round plastic at the bottom: [TAP Plastic](http://www.tapplastics.com/) - Water Pipe: A-1 Plumbing Supply Company - San Francisco - Hygrolon: [Dartfrog](http://www.dartfrog.co.uk/) - UK - LED lamp: [First Rays](https://www.firstrays.com/cgi/cart/commerce.cgi?cart_id=1372963380.108&product=Lighting&pid=700&keywords=) - USA - Fan : [Antec TriCool 80mm Cooling Fan with 3-Speed Switch](http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00066ISVG/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and [power adapter](http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000MGG6SC/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). - Glass for the top: [Glass express](http://theglassexpress.com/) - San Mateo   **Home made - Picture** ![atelier](http://myorchidjournal.blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/atelier.jpg?w=224) My apparment doesn't offer a lot of light so I need artificial light to take picture, especially the macro picture. I build my personal studio - completely home made with a very small budget. Easy to put back together, easy to strip down. Thanks to "[Low budget shooting](http://www.amazon.com/Low-Budget-Shooting-Professional-ebook/dp/B007W8OIZG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1357491499&sr=8-2&keywords=low+budget+shooting)"  for ideas.
